          Master Potter Malcolm Wright June 24th 2023

          Malcolm Wright, now 84 years old.
          We visited him for the first time in several years to hear his story.
          Although we lost some time due to heavy rain on the way, we managed to arrive early in the afternoon.
          Malcolm and Marge welcomed us to their new home.

          Malcolm went to Japan in 1967 through the introduction of Hara Teruo of Sodeisha Group, who he had studied with in Washington DC, and worked at Satoshi Kano's workshop in Kyoto.
          He wrote a letter to Takashi Nakazato in Karatsu, whom he had met in US and was invited to move to Karatsu to apprentice with Nakazato family.
          In Karatsu, he worked and trained under the twelfth generation Taroemon Nakazato with the three Nakazato brothers.
          This was over 50 years ago.

          現在84歳のマルコムライト氏に
          数年ぶりに訪ねて話を聞いた。
          途中の大雨に時間を喰ったが、何とか早い午後に到着、再会を果たした。
          ダウンサイジングして新たに購入した新居で、奥さんのマージと共に出迎えてくれた。

          マルコムは1967年にワシントンで師事していた走泥社の原照夫の紹介で日本に行き、京都の叶敏の工房で働いた。
          アメリカで会った唐津の中里隆に手紙を書いて、返事を待った。
          唐津では、十二代目中里太郎衛門の下で、中里三兄弟と共に働き、
          修行した。
          今から50年以上も前の事である。
